Kindly offered for me to taste by Cellar Masters, many thanks to Stuart Robinson of Cellarmasters.
This wine won Gold at the Barossa Valley Wine Show in 2014 and was Cellarmasters Red Wine of the Year in 2014; it retails online at Cellarmasters at under $20.
Colour is deep dark red with purple edge.
Nose has a lot going on; chocolate, liquorice, white pepper spice, rich stewed plum, legs on the glass like Cyd Charisse.
Palate is rich, round and sumptuous; mouthfilling with present but soft tannins. Chocolate, rich ripe plums and spicy oak still there; it’s a full bodied wine but the balance is good and the finish is long. There is a tinge of alcohol warmth and a not unpleasant touch of salt/ acid right at the finish.
We tasted the wine with a dish of baked marinated lamb racks with coriander and mint roasted vegetables and it worked very well. Otherwise try with hard cheeses or a hearty casserole.
Thanks to Stuart Robinson for the opportunity, a delightful wine at a great price, and the Cellarmasters website is a treasure trove.
