This is a vineyard in the Broke Fordwich area owned by by Jan and John Leigh and Rod and Ivea Smith, hence Smith Leigh Wines. The wine is made by Andrew Margan, an acknowledged master of Hunter semillon.
The ’99 is now getting on and showing some of the wonderful benefits of its age, especially the bottles that still have perfect corks.
The colour is pale gold and the nose has subtle citrus and honey in balance.
The palate still has zesty citrus with sweet fruit and ripe honeydew melons. Some toast and honey add to the mix and the balance is excellent.
Good examples of these wines can be cellered for many years, with this wine it is most likely going to be the years of lower alcohol.
