This wine last year won (among others) the Trophy & Gold, 2005 Sydney Royal Wine Show (Best Sparkling Red Wine in the Show)
It can take a while for this brilliant wine to really come out to play, so you can cellar it for a few years, however after trying one on a hot summer evening last weekend, I’d say it’s game on.
Note that limited quantities of this wine are being offered with a crown seal, so the potential to cellar becomes more interesting – and reliable.
The colour is deep rich crimson. The nose has spice, dark cherries, plums, earth and dark chocolate.
The palate is rich, velvety and chocolatey, with spice, plums, earth and a long dry finish. When all of these elements explode into one with the beautiful effervescence, it’s a real delight. Regulars will know how short these bottles seem to be!
James Halliday says “This wine streaks the commercial sparkling burgundy field, and is an exceptional bargain at this price”
I can only concur – and it continues to be discounted widely.
