We’ve reviewed this wine in the past, however, since it is Huon Hooke’s wine of the week in the SMH Good Living this week I thought it was worthwhile to add his review…

“Mount Langi Ghiran, Langi Shiraz, 2004

Another rip-snorter from Langi – fascinating when tasted with the Cliff Edge and the three single-vineyard shiraz bottled the same year. All are superb, but this is the best. Complex dry spices, red and black fruit aromas with cherry and raspberry to the fore. It’s fruit-driven, vibrant, beautifully refined and elegant, with assertive but fine-grained tannins and terrific line and length.

It’s a surprise to read it’s a 15 per cent alcohol as it’s not really obvious; balance is the key. This vintage was the first with winemaker Dan Buckle in charge. Drink now or cellar until 2020.

Food: roast leg of lamb with mint sauce; lamb fillets with reduction sauce and pesto; soft cheeses such as taleggio and French brie; hard cheeses like parmesan and cheddar.”
