In a recent issue of Noteworthy – the newsletter of Balmain Sinfonia – Warren Stolmack referred to the Penfolds Bin 389, a cabernet shiraz blend. Many makers have taken it a step further by adding a merlot, cabernet franc or petit verdot component. Warren recommends trying the Mad Fish Western Australian premium red. It is a blend of cabernet sauvigon, merlot and cabernet franc. It’s a wine that goes superbly with meat dishes and at around $A18 per bottle is very good value.
