Tatachilla Partners 2004 Cabernet Shiraz is the wine of the week in this week’s SMH Good Living.

Huon Hooke says: “Probably not 100 per cent McLaren Vale these days (the label doesn’t divulge, though it’s probably largely McLaren Vale) but the wine in the bottle is very good and amazing value. It even has a gold medal to its credit.

Rich, ripe and generously flavoured, it has a soft and rounded profile with good extract and remarkable depth for its price. Fully ripe and not particularly varietal, it has good wine character. Chocolatey and earthy. Soft tannins contribute to a clean finish that leaves you wanting more. Best now or put in the wine cellar until 2012.
