“Many wine drinkers know the best way to hold a glass of vino is by the stem, not the bowl, to prevent their body heat from warming the liquid.

But how about sniffing the cork? Is any insight into a wine’s freshness gained by smelling the bottle’s stopper?

Not really, says James Dunne, wine expert and culinary arts professor.

‘Smelling of the cork is largely overrated,’ he said, while pointing out that touching the cork is more useful in assessing whether a wine might be skunked.” read more
