A blend of 55% Grenache, 25% Shiraz and 20% Mataro (Mourvedre), the 2005 was one of the last to be finished with a cork closure, but it is high quality cork and in perfect condition.
Colour is deep dark brick red and showing some of its age.
Nose shows the elegance and balance that is brought by age – at first quite reserved. Then there is sweet red fruit, rich and sumptuous, also some vanilla, plums and a nice savoury edge.
Palate is deep and penetrating; rich flavours on the front to mid palate, blackberries, dark fruits, stewed plums, and still a hint of the raspberry and red frog touches of its early years.
Medium to full bodied, the tannins now subdued by time, it is rich and luscious. The finish is not long but very rich and tinged with spice.
