This is a 13.5% alcohol pinot from Pipers Brook in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. At 41 degrees south, this is an area which seems to provide a superb climate for pinots!
The ’05 pinot has is a clear bright cherry red in colour with a nose that includes mushroom/gamey notes, sweet oak and dark cherries. The palate provides some mouth filling soft tannins, a hint of spice and dark cherries with a long finish.
A very more-ish wine. The bottle didn’t last long!
Tasted again in May 2015
Colour – garnet, touch bricky on the edge, still deep and clear.
Nose – dark berry, subdued gentle spice, some strawberry.
Palate – medium bodied, fine soft tannins, velvet mouthfeel and lovely structure. Still some fine and silky spice and savoury tannins, giving it a fine but firm backbone.
Screwcap saves the day again.
