The 2008 Mitchelton Blackwood Park Riesling is the wine of the week in yesterday’s Good Living segment of the SMH. Huon Hooke writes …

Mitchelton has proven over many years that its home in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley is a great place to grow riesling, and this is one of the best of their vintages I’ve had in years. It’s intense to sniff: dried flowers, dried herbs, cured had and minerally side-notes. The tast is refined, intense and yet delicate, with seamless harmony and well-integrated acidity.

It’s the sort of refreshing wine to serve with seafood, cold meats and salads in warmer weather. It will also age well: drink now and for seven or eight years if well cellared.

Recommended food pairings: shellfish, crustaceans, most fish and many vegetable-based dishes.
