Sandalford Prindiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

Here’s one for the cellar.

Sandalford Prendiville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 – at around $90 you’ll need deep pockets for the second vintage of this superb Margaret River cabernet sauvignon.

Margaret River is arguably one of the greatest regions in Australia for premium quality cabernet and Sandalford owns one of the largest and oldest vineyards in the area with 93 producing hectares.

The 2003 Prendiville displays a nose brimming with super-ripe briary fruit and a hint of vanilla and cedar from the oak. There is also the MR characteristic wet forest floor notes. The mouthfeel is full-bodied with the characteristics of the nose flowing through to the palate. The tannins are silky, the oak is balanced and there is terrific structure.

Sandalford suggest that this wine should cellar for up to 25 years.

I tried this wine at the Halifax Port of wines festival, and it was spectacular! It was head and shoulders above such notables as Wolf Blass Black Label, and Berringer Cabernet. I dug deep and picked up a bottle ($90) and will save it for a special occasion. Perhaps my favotite EVER!!! It may be hard to find (not available from the Sandalford website) but get one if you can find one!
