The Shelmerdine wines are more and more impressive and represent great value at their moderate prices. They are made by award-winning Steve Webber and his team at De Bortoli’s Yarra Valley winery, and Webber has great respect for Stephen Shelmerdine’s vineyards. This has nutty, creamy lees-derived aromas with a touch of acceptable cheesiness and a beautifully streamlined, elegant palate, which is smooth, fine and dry with good line and texture. It’s complex but unencumbered by excessive oak or malolactic influences. A lovely drink at a more-than-fair price. Best within four years.
