The Tulloch Private Bin Pokolbin Dry Red Shiraz, 2006, is Huon Hooke’s wine of the week in the SMH 22/4/08…
“This vintage is dedicated to Sydney restaurateur J.K. Johnnie Walker, who helped put this famous Hunter Valley wine family on the map in the ’50s and ’60s. An outstanding Hunter shiraz, it has a whiff of smoke over dark-plum, earth, leather and charred-oak characters, while the palate is elegant and harmonious, with smooth ripe tannins and balanced alcohol of just 13.5 per cent.
It is a wine that’s made to go with food and will impress even more at dinner than in a blind tasting. It’s quite regional but retains plenty of bright, clean primary shiraz fruit. Drink now to 20+ years.”
Now here’s a bottle to put in the wine cellar.
