2010 Gembrook Hill Pinot NoirColour is pale and transparent, tinged with pink, a little unusual to say the least.

Nose shows strawberry, forest floor and savoury characters.

Palate belies the colour and nose somewhat; light to medium bodied with strawberry, savoury spice, a fine acid backbone, and a long finish. Tannins are soft and present to the end.

Made by Timo Mayer, it’s a wine of surprising substance and presence, captivating and very moorish.

Ben Edwards in James Halliday’s Wine Companion 2012 noted:

Light colour, but don’t be fooled, as the bouquet is seductive and highly expressive with red fruits in abundance, offset by sappy complexity and an intriguing blend of exotic spices and fresh herbs; light bodied, silky and layered with a truly expansive and elegant palate that is both easy to understand and enjoy.’
